Dr. Larry Schutz - Neuropsychological and PsychologicalLarry E. Schutz, Ph.D., ABPP, is a neuropsychologist with more than 30 years of clinical experience. He is a specialist in assessment, brain injury rehabilitation, and psychotherapy.

As an assessment specialist, Dr. Schutz performs neuropsychological and psychological testing to evaluate intelligence, learning and recall, perception, motor skills, attention skills, processing speed, problem solving, and  coping skills and styles. He has published articles on advanced assessment methods, and was elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Neuropsychology in recognition of his contributions to the field of neuropsychology. He has served as an expert witness in Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

As a rehabilitation specialist, Dr. Schutz performs Holistic Cognitive Rehabilitation, a highly developed and internationally recognized methodology that teaches clients how to control and prevent their own cognitive impairments. The cognitive training methods were invented at the National Rehabilitation Research and Training Center at New York University, and they have been used with tens of thousands of clients over the past 37 years. Holistic Cognitive Rehabilitation is the methodology employed at many model programs, including the brain injury rehabilitation programs at the Mayo Clinic, Barrow Neurologic Institute, Robert Wood Johnson, Jr., Rehabilitation Center, and the national programs of Israel and Denmark. Dr. Schutz was trained by the method’s  founding neuropsychologist, and he is one of the primary published experts on this technique. You can read several of his papers on this Web site. His specialized capabilities in rehabilitation are certified by the American Board of Rehabilitation Psychology (ABPP).

As a psychotherapist, Dr. Schutz provides support and no-nonsense help for the psychological and practical problems of daily life, as well as recovery support for neurological, medical, physical, stress-related, and mental health problems. His style could be described as nonjudgmental, open-minded, and willing to listen. He provides stress management, pain management, and crisis intervention as needed.

Dr. Schutz is available as a consultant and as a speaker. He has presented at international symposia, support group meetings, national conferences in psychology, speech-language pathology, and rehabilitation.

Dr. Schutz founded GiveBack, Inc., a non-profit organization providing support for survivors of acquired brain injuries, in Florida in 2004. Training Placement: Dr. Schutz is offering a part-time training opportunity in our cognitive rehabilitation day treatment program for interested professionals in speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, neuropsychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, rehabilitation nursing, and recreational therapy. Students may be considered. Nontraditional applicants, including survivors of brain injuries, are encouraged to apply. This is a unique opportunity to study the high-level training methodology of holistic cognitive rehabilitation by working directly with Dr. Schutz and Ms. McNamara.

Survivors are to be respected and honored for having survived, but recoverers go on to realize their untapped potential to live productive lives again
